Many stores in Japan play a song called "Hotaru no Hikari" ("Light of the Fireflies," sung to the tune of "Auld Lang Syne") at closing time. The store where I used to work played it too. Back then, part of me wanted to wrap up quickly and go home, but I also didn't want to rush out customers who were still carefully choosing what to buy right up to the end. This piece is about the gap between the smiling me on the surface and the me inside who just wanted to go home.
