I thought I was painting flowers, but the colors and shapes started to look like konpeito, little star-shaped Japanese sugar candies, so I added more colors. While painting, I was reminded of the "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" from Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker," which in Japanese is named after konpeito.

Translated from the artist's original Japanese caption (view in Japanese).
