For 2026, the Year of the Horse, I layered three things, from back to front: a horseshoe, the word "uma" (horse) written in hiragana, and the kanji character for horse. I brought in colors often used for the Japanese New Year to give the piece a seasonal feel. Writing the characters by hand, I wanted to keep the mood of kakizome — the traditional first calligraphy of the New Year.

Translated from the artist's original Japanese caption (view in Japanese).
